The ZF 6HP26 6-speed automatic gearbox fitted to the Land Rover Discovery 3 was originally described as “sealed for life”. In reality, transmission fluid gradually degrades with heat cycles and mileage, leading to reduced lubrication and poorer gearbox performance.

Old or contaminated fluid can cause a range of issues including torque converter judder, slipping between gears, delayed engagement and harsh shifting. Regular servicing helps maintain smooth operation and extends the life of the transmission.

This premium service kit includes a metal easy-change sump conversion and high quality Liqui Moly Top Tec 1800 automatic transmission fluid, allowing a proper gearbox service without the complex process normally required to replace the original integrated plastic sump filter.

The factory sump incorporates the filter, meaning replacement normally requires lifting the engine and removing surrounding components. This conversion kit replaces the original plastic sump with a durable metal pan and separate replaceable filter, making future gearbox servicing significantly easier.

Easy-change sump conversion process

1. Drain the transmission fluid and remove the sump bolts.
2. Carefully cut the plastic filter neck on the original sump.
3. Remove the plastic sump pan.
4. Install the new separate filter.
5. Fit the metal sump pan with the supplied gasket and bolts.
6. Refill and set the fluid level following the ZF transmission filling procedure.
