View Lubricant Tables Shop Oils & FluidsPlease Check Your Vehicle Information
Important: This information is provided as a general guide only. Always check the owner’s handbook, workshop manual or official technical information for your exact vehicle before selecting or adding any lubricant. Confirm the required grade, specification, capacity and filling procedure for the specific engine, gearbox, transfer drive, rear differential or coupling fitted to your vehicle.
Important Capacity Notice
Capacities are approximate and may vary with component type, model year, engine, gearbox, drivetrain system, component revision and the amount of lubricant retained during draining. Always confirm the correct specification, filling procedure and final level for the exact vehicle.
Using the Freelander and Discovery Sport Tables
Freelander 1, Freelander 2 and Discovery Sport are mechanically different vehicles. They use unrelated engines, gearboxes, four-wheel-drive systems and steering arrangements, so fluids should not be selected by vehicle name alone.
Later vehicles may use a power transfer unit, rear drive unit and Haldex or active driveline coupling. These are separate components and may require different lubricants. Engine oil must match both the viscosity and the complete manufacturer specification.

| 3.2 i6 petrol engine | 5W-30 | Ford WSS-M2C913-B or the handbook specification for the model year. | Approximately 7.5 litres including filter. |
| 2.0 Si4 petrol engine | 5W-30 | Use the exact Ford or JLR petrol-engine approval stated for the model year. | Fill gradually and confirm the final level. |
| Six-speed manual gearbox | Dedicated manual transmission fluid | Use the exact specification for the fitted Getrag transmission. | Approximately 2.0 litres, depending on gearbox version. |
| Six-speed automatic gearbox | Aisin-approved automatic transmission fluid | Match the fluid to the exact transmission and model year. Earlier and later versions may use different fluid specifications. | Level must be set using the specified temperature-controlled procedure. |
| Power Transfer Unit | Dedicated synthetic gear oil | Use the JLR specification for the fitted PTU. Do not substitute automatic transmission fluid. | Small fill quantity; use the correct measured or level-plug procedure. |
| Rear differential | Synthetic hypoid axle oil | Use the specified JLR rear-drive-unit oil. | Do not confuse the differential oil with the Haldex coupling fluid. |
| Haldex coupling | Dedicated Haldex coupling fluid | Use fluid approved for the generation of Haldex unit fitted. | The Haldex coupling and rear differential are filled separately. |
| Power steering | Cold-climate hydraulic fluid | Land Rover STC50519-type fluid where specified for the fitted hydraulic steering system. | Check the reservoir cap and handbook before topping up. |
Freelander 2 Power-Steering Fluid
Freelander 2 models with the hydraulic power-steering system use special cold-climate hydraulic fluid. Where Land Rover part number STC50519 is specified, do not substitute ordinary ATF, brake fluid or generic hydraulic oil.
