Automatic gearbox easy-change transmission filter conversion kit for Discovery 3 models fitted with the ZF 6HP26 or 6HP28 6-speed automatic gearbox.

Land Rover originally described these automatic gearboxes as “sealed for life”, however over time transmission fluid degradation can lead to symptoms such as gearbox judder, slipping, noise and reduced shift quality.

ZF, the gearbox manufacturer, recommends replacing the automatic transmission fluid and filter approximately every 50,000 to 75,000 miles to maintain optimum performance and reliability.

From the factory the sump pan and filter are combined into a single plastic unit. Removing the original sump often requires lifting the engine slightly and loosening mounts or exhaust components to allow clearance.

This easy-change transmission filter kit converts the original design to a metal sump pan with a separate replaceable filter, making both installation and future servicing significantly easier.

The new steel sump also provides improved durability compared with the original plastic sump assembly.

Kit contains:

• 1 x Easy-change metal sump pan with replaceable transmission filter
• 1 x Replacement sump gasket
• 1 x Set of new fixing bolts

Installation overview:

1. Drain the automatic transmission fluid.
2. Remove the original plastic sump and integrated filter.
3. Cut the original filter tube to allow removal of the sump.
4. Install the new separate transmission filter.
5. Fit the metal sump pan using the supplied gasket and bolts.
6. Refill the transmission with the correct specification automatic transmission fluid.

Approximately 7 litres of transmission fluid are typically required for a standard gearbox service.
