The Luxury Evolution of the Third-Generation Range Rover L322
The third-generation Range Rover, launched in 2002, marked a significant change in the history of the iconic 4x4 brand. It was the only model sold under the ownership of Ford, who acquired Land Rover from BMW in 2000. However, most of the design and engineering work was done by BMW before the sale, and the initial versions of the third-generation Range Rover used BMW engines, such as the 4.4-litre V8 petrol and the 3.0-litre inline-six diesel.
Over the years, the third-generation Range Rover underwent several updates and revisions, including introducing new engines from Ford and Jaguar, such as the 4.2-litre supercharged V8 petrol and the 3.6-litre V8 diesel. The third-generation Range Rover also featured advanced technologies and innovations, such as the Terrain Response system, the air suspension, the adaptive cruise control, and the touch-screen infotainment system.
While the first and second generations of the Range Rover were renowned for their off-road prowess and upmarket appeal, the third-generation Range Rover took the concept of luxury to a whole new level. It was positioned as a premium vehicle that competed with the likes of Mercedes-Benz, BMW, and Lexus, rather than a rugged 4x4 that could handle any terrain. The third-generation Range Rover was praised for its refined ride, spacious and comfortable interior, elegant styling, and impressive performance. Its off-road capability, which was still outstanding, was seldom highlighted or advertised as the focus shifted to the on-road experience and the customers' lifestyle.
