An engine service kit normally contains the filters required for routine servicing. Some kits also include engine oil and a replacement drain plug, but the contents vary, so check the individual product description before ordering.

For diesel models, the oil must meet the specification required by the engine and its emissions equipment. Viscosity alone is not enough: two oils marked 5W-30 may have different specifications and approvals.

DA6086COM for Discovery 4 3.0 diesel models with a DPF

The DA6086COM engine service kit with 5W-30 oil is listed for Discovery 4 3.0 TDV6 and SDV6 diesel models fitted with a DPF.

The kit includes:

• Six one-litre bottles of 5W-30 engine oil.
• Oil filter.
• Air filter.
• Fuel filter.
• Cabin filter.
• Replacement oil drain plug with rubber seal.

Always check the live product listing for the latest contents and compatibility information. Follow the correct filling and oil-level checking procedure for your vehicle rather than assuming that the entire quantity supplied must be used.

Choosing the correct automatic gearbox service kit

Discovery 4 models were fitted with both six-speed and eight-speed automatic gearboxes. Their service kits, filters, sumps and transmission fluids are different and cannot be interchanged.

Do not identify the gearbox from the engine badge or DPF status. If you are unsure which transmission is fitted, check the VIN and vehicle specification before ordering.

DA2142KITRAV for the six-speed gearbox

The DA2142KITRAV automatic gearbox service kit with Ravenol ATF is designed for applicable early Discovery 4 models fitted with the ZF six-speed automatic gearbox. It is not suitable for vehicles with the later eight-speed transmission.

The kit includes:

• Easy-change metal gearbox sump.
• Separate replacement filter.
• Sump gasket.
• Replacement sump bolts.
• Seven litres of Ravenol ATF 6HP transmission fluid.

The easy-change conversion replaces the original plastic sump and integrated filter with a metal sump and separate filter. This makes subsequent filter replacement more straightforward.

DA3383 for the eight-speed gearbox

The DA3383 eight-speed automatic gearbox sump, filter and Ravenol fluid kit is listed for Discovery 4 models from 2011 to 2016 fitted with the ZF 8HP70 eight-speed automatic transmission.

The kit includes:

• Replacement filter pan assembly.
• Seven litres of Ravenol transmission fluid.
• Replacement screws and plug.

This kit is not suitable for the earlier six-speed gearbox. Registration year alone may not identify the transmission conclusively, so check the vehicle specification before ordering.

What else should be checked during a service?

An engine or gearbox service kit only covers the parts included in that package. It does not replace the vehicle’s complete maintenance schedule.

Depending on the vehicle’s mileage and service history, other items may also require inspection or replacement, including:

• Auxiliary and timing belts.

• Coolant.
