Shock absorbers are also known as dampers. They have a very important job of absorbing or dampening the rebound of the energy generated in your Land Rover's leaf, coil, or air springs when driving over bumps and undulations both on and off-road. They do this by using a piston to channel oil or gas through a series of restrictors. Shock absorbers rarely break, but they do wear out or leak, resulting in performance deterioration. In addition, failed shock absorbers can result in an uncomfortable ride and unpredictable or even dangerous handling! So for safety reasons, always replace shock absorbers in pairs.
